“it’s my turn to tend to the purple flowers. to sow into others what you gave to me.”

Meet the writer:

Hello there!
My name is Alayna (Davis) McFadden. I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, along with 3 older siblings. Raised as a pastor’s kid, I had the privilege of a front row seat of church ministry. Through the years I’ve fallen in love with writing, thanks to my mother. She encouraged me to write down things that God has taught me and laid on my heart. Along with that she taught me may things about life and was an example of how to live it. This blog is dedicated to her. She sowed into me and many others and now it’s my turn to carry it on.

I now live in beautiful Colorado with my husband, Mike and our two dogs. These writings are documentations of the work Christ is doing in my life. A glimpse of how Christ makes all creation new through Him and how He can turn immense pain into something beautiful. The grief of loosing my mother isn’t the end of my story, just merely an ink blot, that is being created into something useful. I am a big advocate for having joy in this life. I found sustaining joy in God, the One that saved me. I hope you can find that too.

Love,
Alayna Joy

conversations about life and wisdom were shared whilst planting the purple flowers. the ones that i knew were your favorite. the name you gave me was your “garden girl”. through life you planted wisdom, advice and encouragement in me to help me grow. just like the pansy’s in our garden. you watched me flourish and gave me what i needed to survive through the weeds. you were there through the sunshine and rain. all of which shaped me to who i am.

now i continue to grow… though you aren’t here beside me. your words and wisdom remain with me, along with your legacy. it’s my turn to tend to the purple flowers. to sow into others what you gave to me. sharing the love, encouragement, prayer, kindness, and joy with them. to walking in the way that you did with God. pointing others to Him, the one that created them. who gave them a name before the world was formed. the one that calls them “beloved”.

this is your legacy.

on it grows… among the garden.

”In loving honor and memory of my mother, who sowed into my life.”
